2023 Summer Internship.png

MYCJ is Hiring a Summer Intern!

Internship Summary

MYCJ is seeking a youth intern who will provide support to the coalition’s structural and organizing work. The intern will work closely with MYCJ staff members and MYCJ’s decision making team, Core, to help with administrative, communications, and advocacy tasks and projects. If interested, the intern will also have the opportunity to begin or help out with a project or initiative of their choice! Past interns have used this opportunity to start cohorts in MYCJ (like the BIPOC cohort) or campaigns (like the CMP Corridor Opposition campaign). They have also helped out with a project they would like to gain more experience in, like grant writing.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Cleaning up spreadsheets and databases when needed. Training on using relevant platforms will be available if the intern is interested.

  • Providing support for active campaigns, upcoming events, and MYCJ cohorts. The intern will be oriented to current campaigns and initiatives, and provided onboarding materials.

  • Supporting MYCJ’s communications team by helping draft newsletters, social media, and blog post content with the support of other MYCJ members.

  • Supporting MYCJ calls by helping take call notes, craft agendas, or co-facilitate calls if interested. Facilitation training will be available if the intern is interested.

  • Working on a project of interest to the intern.

Qualifications

  • A commitment to social and climate justice and youth-led social change.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Commitment to supporting a culture of inclusion and non-judgement.

  • Work will be remote. Use of, or willingness to be trained in, email, Slack and Zoom, will be needed for organizing and connecting. The intern is welcome to use their own computer or tablet, or we can connect you with what you need.

  • Administrative or organizing experience is a plus but is not required.

Statistics show that LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC, women, as well as other marginalized groups apply to positions only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. If this position excites you, we encourage you to apply. We value our team members’ lived experiences and will happily consider relevant personal experiences in place of technical requirements. Please reach out to our team if you want to discuss how your experiences match this position’s expectations.

Time Commitment and Compensation

The internship will start in May or June 2023 and will go through August or September 2023, depending on the intern’s availability and schedule. The intern will work up to 15 hours a week. Days and hours are flexible. This internship will be done remotely. The intern will be compensated at $18.50 per hour.
